Udaipur

City of Lakes · palaces, ghats and sunset boat rides

Founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II after Chittorgarh fell, Udaipur was built around a chain of man-made lakes in the Aravalli hills. Its lakeside palaces, painted havelis and Mewar miniature painting tradition make it the softest, most romantic of Rajasthan's cities.
